About us
Established in the opportunities created by South Africa's democratic values, and built on a track record that reaches back well before the company itself.
Honey Bee Construction cc was established in 2011, when Barry Hoffenburg decided to form a new construction company. With more than 24 years of experience in the construction industry and an experienced management team in place, Honey Bee Construction is equipped to meet the modern requirements of the South African construction industry.
Although the company was established relatively recently, it carries — through its partnerships — a long history and track record of experience and success across the areas of business it is engaged in. The founder brings many years of experience in finance and construction, as well as retail business ventures.
Operations began in Johannesburg and the Free State in 2011 with low-cost housing, and extended shortly afterwards into renovation and property development work in and around Johannesburg. Honey Bee is well placed to develop or partner into significant projects, and to acquire and invest in existing and new businesses. Our interventions are based on adding value and creating higher potential for the projects we invest in.

To exceed international best practice in the provision of value-adding services to projects and investments, and create wealth for all stakeholders.
To develop, build and service Southern Africa for living, working and travelling; in order to improve the quality of living for all.
To facilitate optimal use of value-adding services in project management and business development, engender economic growth through our investments, and maximise wealth for all stakeholders in a sustainable and socially responsible manner.
How we work
Leadership
Barry Hoffenburg has been employed in the construction industry for more than 24 years. His previous employment was with Stocks & Stocks, where he fulfilled the responsibility of Project Manager. He has been involved in major construction projects inside and outside the borders of South Africa.
Leadership commitment: using our expertise, experience and vision to pursue innovation, empowerment and growth — while enhancing the diversity, skills and competence of our workforce.
Ownership & empowerment
Honey Bee Construction aims to exceed all B-BBEE and Employment Equity requirements, and intends to comply with and exceed the DTI codes in particular.
We have engaged the issue of empowerment boldly and decisively, with solid business partners who hold an active interest in our market, and we have the governance and corporate management to cope with an increasing workload.
Our procurement policy ensures that, wherever possible, materials, equipment and sub-contracts are obtained from B-BBEE or SMME suppliers.
We endeavour to gain preferred status by delivering the best service and product through legitimacy.
Honey Bee Construction believes the quality of the air, water and soil should be protected for the continued benefit of all ecosystems, so that the needs of present and future generations are met. We are committed to acting responsibly and with due regard to the effects of our operations and services on the environment. Protecting the environment is an obligation — not a choice.
Honey Bee Construction is committed to the highest standards of health and safety, and takes all reasonable steps to ensure the health and safety of every employee on every site.
